Upcoming versioning changes for eLxr

The current eLxr 12 series (aria) has been following semantic versioning, with the latest release delivered in December 2025 as 12.12.0. Starting with the next major release, we will transition to a calendar-based versioning scheme:

  • eLxr 26 (bianca) will be based on Debian 13 (trixie).

The existing aria series will continue to align with Debian 12 (bookworm) and maintain its numbering convention. For example, when Debian 12.13 becomes available, eLxr 12.13 will follow shortly thereafter.

Adding here that the version of the first Debian 13 (trixie) based eLxr release, code named Bianca, will be 26.04.01.

The 26.04 part of the version will remain static for its lifetime, and the .01 suffix will be updated on each release:

  • 26.04.01 (Quarter 1 2026)
  • 26.04.02 (Quarter 2 2026)
  • 26.04.03 (Quarter 3 2026)

Where the plan is to continue with the quarterly release cycle.
