Raspberry Pi 5 Images

Hi folks, I am going to put together configurations for Rucksack for the Raspberry Pi 5. The plan is to use unmodified eLxr userspace and kernel packages. I have done this for the RPi4 already using unmodified Debian Trixie userspace and kernel packages so this challenge will be slightly different, but we’ll see what the results look like.

The main goal here is to get the core of the RPi5 working so folks can make use of it to host arm64 GitLab runners in their personal GitLab namespaces. The fact that the RPi5 is cheap, powerful and readily available makes it a good option for this. Yes it is possible to use Raspberry Pi OS to host the runners but there are some advantages to use eLxr, thus my interest in wanting to get these images produced by Rucksack.

If anyone has any thoughts, feel free to follow up.

By the way, I have started to dig into this work. I am using it as a catalyst for improvements to the distro-to-order tools such as the package cacheing that was merged this week to Pasha and Rucksack, as well as documentation improvements for those projects that is coming soon. In keeping with the goal I will look at creating a manifest with all the needed packages to easily add a RPi5 as a GitLab runner, per my original stated goal. I just wanted to post an update since it has been a few weeks since my original post.
